Standard 4: Professional Knowledge and Skills
Throughout the program I was able to develop and polish my professional knowledge of learning theory and polish many of the skills that I have been developing. I have solid skills in technology but I was introduced to web design, infographics and other resources to create different types of learning materials. The most growth came from data analysis and reflection. Here I have included some collaborative analysis of educational materials, a course rubric that can be used when evaluating any type of online course and a lesson on editing that reflects the skills that I have been teaching and learning.
Standard 4.1 Collaborative Practice
Collaboration is a skill that is often overlooked in education but necessary in order to have success anywhere. Throughout the program, I was put in several different groups. Many of my group members were not in my same situation of having a full time job while going to school. While this made me insecure about my ability to contribute, I think I was able to be effective by applying my unique skills in order to get things done. I took the unfamiliar route in a non leadership role in my groups, but I think I as a very good task master. This peer review was created by myself and my group members. It analysis another group’s project.
Standard 4.2 Leadership
Taking on a leadership role in education is a goal of mine. I chose to pursue my masters degree in education for several reasons. The first reason is because I wanted to see how an online program works for higher education. I wanted to be able to evaluate the different teaching methods and see how a course can work for graduate students. Many of these skills I translated into my own course. This rubric illustrates my values of a course. I hope to use this rubric when I am creating courses for myself and evaluating courses for other teachers.
Standard 4.3 Reflection on Practice
The Editing 101 lesson utilized several different skills and practices in video editing. This lesson follows the standard method of presentations that I have created for my courses. This includes a lesson overview, essential vocabulary, information presented as text, graphics and videos and at least two different types of assessment for the lesson.
